Pier Luigi Corona



Pier Luigi Corona was born in Rome, where he started his music studies whit Mario Cerquozzi and Sergio Notaro.
Subsequently he attended master classes by Julian Bream and Oscar Ghiglia. He was for three years the latter's pupil at the Accademia Musicale Chigiana of Siena, where he was awarded the special merit diploma three times.
Already before graduating in guitar with the highest marks and a first-class degree he started still very young an intense peforming career. As a soloist he has performed with several orchestras, such as the Orchestra della Rai di Roma, the Filarmonica di Udine, the Laboratorio Ensemble, the International Chamber Orchestra, the Orchestra di Treviso, the Orchestra “F. Busoni” and the orchestra of the radio-television of Tirana. Pier Luigi Corona was invited to play at prestigious international festivals, such as the Salzburg Festival, Lubiana, Zagreb, Bucarest, Bitola (Macedonia), Apollonia (Albania) and Dolnykubin (Slovakia). He has performed and toured important concert venues in Italy and abroad; among those the recitals in New York, Boston, Washington, Buenos Aires, La Plata, Mar del Plata, Madrid, Barcelona, Seville, Cordoba, Malaga, Huelva, Prague, Brussels, Vienna, Klagenfurt, Cologne, Munich, Luxembourg, Tripoli, Nairobi, Cork (Ireland) must be mentioned. Since 2004 he has been the soloist of the Gorizia Guitar Orchestra with which he has recently toured Slovakia and the Czech Republic. He has recorded for Rai, BBC, German Radio- Television and Radio Capodistria. His solo repertoire includes among others the oeuvre by Heitor Villa-Lobos, J. S. Bach (transcribed from the lute) and Joaquin Turina. For the Label Sound he has recorded the complete works of Joaquin Turina and works by Manuel M. Ponce.
As a winner of a competitive state exame he is a faculty member at the public conservatory Conservatorio Statale di Musica “G. Tartini” of Trieste, holding the chair of guitar.
