Michael Frischenschlager



Michael Frischenschlager – soloist, chamber musician, violin pedagogue from Salzburg – is descendent of a well known musicians family of long tradition. He studied violin, conducting and musicology in Salzburg, Cologne, Vienna, Rome. Violin with Theodor Müller, André Gertler, Franz. Samohyl and Yehudi Menuhin. After several years of important orchestral experience (Wiener Solisten and Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra) followed a period of intensive concert activity as solist and chamber musician, performing in almost all european countries, Asia and North America. 1971 he began to teach at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna with many brilliant violinists coming out from his class throughout the years. He served his University also as its head of string department, later as its Vice-Chancellor and then Chancellor from 1989 to 1996. He is worldwide in demand as jury member of renowned violin and chamber music competitions and also as teacher for master classes at leading universities and academies.

Former head of the European String Teachers Association in Austria, Michael Frischen- schlager has been the President of the Fritz Kreisler International Violin Competition in Vienna since 1989. In 1990 he founded the International Summer Academy Prague-Wien- Budapest and was its director for 14 years.

Michael Frischenschlager - President of the International Fritz Kreisler Competition and chancellor emeritus of the University for Music and Performing Arts in Vienna studied in Salzburg, Cologne, Vienna and Rome with Theodor Müller, André Gertler, Franz Samohyl and Yehudi Menuhin. After valuable orchestral experience (Vienna Soloists, Vienna Philharmonic) and an international performance career, in 1971 he became professor of violin at the University for Music and Performing Arts in Vienna, where in teaching he discovered the most fullfilling mission of his life.
