Jasna Corrado-Merlak



JasnaCorrado- Merlak was born in Trieste in 1966. She studied at the local conservatoire G.Tartini with prof. Evelina Vio and prof. Maria Grazia Consoli. In 1985 she obtained a full honoured diploma with distinction and was given the European Year of Music celebration-silver medal from the Italian presidenent F.Cossiga as the best graduate of the year. In 1981 at the age of 15 she held her first concert in Alessandria receiving particular praise from the critics. In the same year she came first at the National Harp Competition in Santa Margherita Ligure. Since then she has had an intense concert-activity in Italy and abroad.

She recorded for the Italian television RAI, the Yugoslavian television, the BBC, the ORFF and Radio France.She attended seminars in the Netherlands, Great Britain and Austria.
From 1984 to 1988 she took several courses at Eastman School of Music in Rochester (USA) given by Eileen Malone.

In 1986 she won first prize by unanimous vote of the examination board at the International Harp Competition in Paris.

In 1987 she toured the USA and had concerts in Houston, Dallas, Rochester, Miami.
In the same period she issued her first solo record with the European Community Chamber Orchestra for Hyperion (London) playing Concerto in A major for harp and orchestra by G. Paisiello (world premiere recording).

She played as soloist with the Wiennerkammerorchester conducted by Philippe Entremont in Vien, Linz and Saltzburg. In the same towns she played also duo with the flutist Wolfgang Schultz . For the bicentenary of Mozart’s death in Vienna, she played Concerto for flute, harp and orchestra KV 299 by Mozart with the Wiennerkammerorchester conducted by Sandor Vegh.

Several compositions have been dedicated to Jasna Corrado – Merlak, among which Concerto del Timavo for harp and orchestra by the Triestine composer Fabio Vidali premierred in Thessaloniki and Trieste
