Claudio Montafia



Claudio Montafia took his Flute Degree, with full marks, at the Academy of Music "G. Verdi" of Turin with the Maestro Ariodante Evangelisti.
After attending Darlington Hall (Durham - UK) and di Sion (CH) courses, he got his Degree with full marks (the maximum) and the P. L. Graf´s "Special Mention". Afterwards he took special tuition with the Maestro Sir James Galway, becoming one of his most brilliant students.
He is the only Music Academy teacher in Italy belonging to the great Irish Maestro's school.
He won a number of competitions (Manta, Stresa, "Rassegna Giovani Interpreti" of RAI 1 and Orchestra RAI of Turin and Orchestra Angelicum of Milan).
He has recorded (both vinyl and CD) for: Fonit-Cetra: "Sonate di Sammartini per flauto e continuo"; for Tactus: Vivaldi "Sonate a Cinque"; for Rainbow: first recordings for Flute and harp and integral sonatas of Ph. Gaubert for flute and piano; for Nalesso Records: Vivaldi "Concerti a Titolo" and "Concerti per flauto e archi".
He has also recorded for many national and foreign TV and radio broadcasts such as: RAI 1, RAI 2, RAI 3, in Holland, France, Switzerland, Yugoslavia, Hungary, Bulgaria and Czechoslovakia.
He has played both as a soloist and with chamber concert compositions all around Europe for very important commissions and for International festivals such as: Evian, Zagabria, Plovdiv, Montepulciano, Settembre Musica, Cervo Ligure, European Flute Festival of Frankfurt, himself one of the two Italians representing Italy performing in concert and teaching a Masterclass.
He has taught various other Masterclasses in a number of Music Academies and at the "Gazzelloni" Festival.
He has also written in specialized magazines.
Many times invited as a jury member for national and international competitions, he has participated as first flute with Orchestra RAI, Orchestra Regio of Torino, Orchestra Internazionale of Italy, Orchestra d´Archi Italiana, Orchestra of Teatro Lirico of Cagliari, Musica Insieme of Cremona, playing also with Camerata Casella, Antidogma Musica and with L. Laskine, R. Veyron La Croix, W. Mikulca, Pidò, W. Mendelshon, Renzetti, Cigoli, Sacchetti and many others.
He teaches flute at the Music Academy "Pollini" in Padua (Italy) and plays as first flute in the Orchestra Regionale Veneta.
